Who Truly Deserves That Seat?
On December 19, 2024, Liam Lawson was officially announced as the reserve driver for Red Bull Racing.
This decision generated a variety of reactions among fans, with some expressing the belief that Yuki Tsunoda was more deserving of the position.
In this article, we will examine the key facts surrounding this announcement.
2021 Season Overview
Tsunoda embarked on his Formula 1 journey in 2021, joining the AlphaTauri team.
Throughout the season, he accumulated a total of 32 points.
His best performance came with a commendable 4th place finish in one of the races.
By the end of the season, he secured 14th place in the driver standings.
2022 Season Overview
Tsunoda continued his journey with AlphaTauri, showcasing his skills on the track.
Throughout the season, he accumulated a total of 12 points.
His best performance came when he secured a commendable 7th place finish.
Ultimately, he concluded the season ranked 17th in the driver standings.
The results this year did not meet the expectations set by those of 2021.
2023 Season Overview
Tsunoda's teammate, Daniel Ricciardo, was replaced by Liam Lawson prior to the Dutch Grand Prix due to Ricciardo's unfortunate hand injury.
Throughout the season, Tsunoda achieved a remarkable total of 17 points.
During his temporary stint as Tsunoda's teammate for five races, Lawson managed to collect 2 points.
Tsunoda's best finish was an impressive 8th place.
In comparison, Lawson's highest finish was 9th place.
Ultimately, Tsunoda secured 14th place in the driver standings, while Lawson finished in 20th place.
2024 Season Overview
Alphatauri was now renamed to RB. Tsunoda's teammate Ricciardo was replaced by the familiar face of Liam Lawson after the Singapore Grand Prix.
During the season, Tsunoda demonstrated impressive performance by accumulating a total of 30 points.
In contrast, Lawson secured 4 points across his 6 races with Red Bull.
Tsunoda's best finish was an impressive 7th place.
Meanwhile, Lawson's top finish was 9th place.
Ultimately, Tsunoda concluded the season ranked 12th in the driver standings.
On the other hand, Lawson finished in 21st place.
From the results, it is evident that Yuki has accumulated more experience and overall points. He has also demonstrated loyalty to the Red Bull and AlphaTauri teams. However, during races, Yuki often expresses frustration over the radio and tends to be quick to dismiss communications from his team. Tsunoda's preference for minimal interaction during races can pose challenges for the teams as they attempt to relay important information.
On the other hand, Lawson has participated in only 11 races in Formula, indicating a level of inexperience. However, this also suggests that he has significant potential yet to be fully realized, as we have not yet witnessed the extent of his capabilities.
Japanese Grand Prix
After two races with Redbull Lawson was replaced by Tsunoda. This was a consequence of Lawson being unable to provide the best results for the team as he struggled to adapt to the RB21.
Doohan Out? Colapinto In?
Doohan currently holds a seat with Alpine for the 2025 season; however, it has been disclosed that his contract allows for participation in up to six races. What will transpire once that limit is reached?
7th May 2025
After 6 races with Alpine Doohan was replaced with Colapinto, Doohan was replaced because Alpine was disappointed with his race results.
Colapinto has the seat for the next five races and it is rumoured that Mick Schumacher could subsequently replace Colapinto if Colapinto is unable to produce results that pleases the team.
