The race had only just begun, yet it felt as if it was already over.

At the second corner, Russell and Piastri began to slow down in preparation for the upcoming corner. Verstappen braked much later, meaning he carried more speed into the corner, allowing him to overtake Piastri and Russell. After that, the pair were unable to get their original positions back from Max. This is due to a few factors; one is the fact that, in general, Imola is a track where it is difficult to overtake as there are not many opportunities for it. Another factor was the safety cars, which Max was able to use to his advantage and pit without losing P1.

After a disappointing qualifying for Ferrari:

Leclerc - P11

Hamilton - P12

Race results:

Hamilton - P4

Leclerc - P6

Rookie Antonelli at his home race. He started with qualifying's P13; other than Australia, this is one of Antonelli's lowest qualifying results. He ended the race weekend with a throttle issue that forced him to retire from the race, much to the upset and disappointment of fans.

During the race, many made comments that Oscar wasn't pushing as hard as he could have and that he was "sleeping behind the wheel." Personally, I think Oscar was not challenging Max due to factors during the race that just left him unable to challenge Max, but also the fact that Oscar knows his championship battle is not with Verstappen currently. Max will always be a threat, but in that moment, his fight was with his teammate Norris.
